Is the Federal Minimal Wage Going Up in 2021?
On Friday, Jan. 22, 2021—Two days after President Biden was sworn in as our 46th President—he has directed his team to work on a new Executive Order (EO) that would require federal contractors to raise minimum wage to at least $15. Minimum wage to workers on federal contracts and subcontractors is currently at $10.95. The EO would also provide emergency paid leave. If the executive order is issued within the president’s first 100 days, then it will come on or before April 30.
This announcement also comes on the heels of President Biden signing an executive order rescinding a series of orders issued by former President Trump aimed at gutting federal employee unions and stripping federal workers of their civil service protections.
Both Executive Orders are great examples of Biden’s immediate action to take the necessary steps to protect and empower federal contractors.
