Advancing Legal Innovation with KP Labs and TAP Workflow Automation
In the accelerating evolution of Legal Operations, legal innovation in applying technology to workflows has been right at its forefront. In many ways, digitizing and automating processes has been essential to the entire transformation that’s underway.
One of the foremost pioneers in that effort? Keesal, Young & Logan and its technology spinoff, Keesal Propulsion Labs. KP Labs has partnered with Mitratech to use TAP Workflow Automation in optimizing corporate legal operations, helping them to expand and connect their tech stack to solve complex legal and business process challenges.
Interviewed by Law.com, Justin Hectus of KP Labs explained how its status as a spinoff of an established legal innovation leader like KYL gave his spinoff a special advantage:
That gives us a unique ability to create tech solutions for corporate legal departments. It also gives us a deeper and more holistic view of the problems that need to be solved than other tech companies might have.
A recent online video session during our Interact 2020 event and a new case study both drive that home.
Legal innovation in workflows and beyond
The on-demand video shows off how KP Labs developed a specific workflow during a 24-hour hackathon in order to solve client challenges. The session dives deep into not just the particulars of designing and building a workflow, but how those should be complemented by smart processes and proper training of Legal Ops personnel to wring the most out of updated ways of doing legal business.
The case study looks at legal innovation around workflow automation through a larger lens. A solution like TAP Workflow Automation is designed to easily integrate with legacy systems and newer components in a legal tech stack. So what are the particulars involved when companies go from just developing and automating a strong process to integrating it with the rest of the technology stack?
“It’s been a really interesting transition to see how we can extend the value of TAP by integrating it with other tools in a client’s environment,” says Tarryn Puzsar, Manager for Business Automation / Process Change at KP Labs, in the case study.
Integrations and possibilities
By deploying a robust set of APIs, KP Labs is able to demonstrate how integrating record systems (like Salesforce) with TAP allows data to be more easily managed and modified, saving time and eliminating the need to hard-code metadata in individual records.
Beyond integrating TAP with record systems and tools, the KP Labs team has also used bulk initiation scripts to instantaneously kick off thousands of transactions that are easily managed from a dashboard. After that process completes, employees can search for information based on a single criterion versus multiple strings of data that have to match perfectly to locate a record. This saves an enormous amount of labor cost.
From the Case Study: “If you’re a company that needs to comply with industry regulations and run a process on a set of 2,000 records twice a year, this is going to be a lot of manual overhead.”
These are just a small sample of what’s covered in the video and case study. Legal innovations by pathfinders like KP Labs and its corporate legal clients are driving everyday progress in digital transformation, and the prospects ahead are even more exciting.
